Project: During the 2014 -2015 academic year, my good friend Kelley Kennedy and I brought computer science education to Brennen Elementary School by partnering with the local YMCA after school program and Google's CS First program. Our goal was to give our students exposure to computer science and to motivate them to not only consume technology, but also to create it.
After a semester of success, Kelley and I trained other undergraduate students (both computing and non-computing students) to take Google CS First programs elsewhere in the greater Columbia Community. Perhaps one of the most rewarding programs was led by Omar Ansari in partnership with the Prosperity Project, which exists to aid in the spiritual and educational development of students living in the the inner city of Columbia, SC.
